Founded by Master Lawrence Tan, TanDao is cultivated from his lifetime of experience, with over 45 years of teaching grounded in studies with masters in the US and in Asia.  The origin of TanDao stems from a formal foundation and teaching in Uechi Ryu, and Wah Lum Praying Mantis, along with studies in JKD, Wing Chun, Hung Gar, Tae Kwon Do.

With a background as well in martial art media, as far east editor of Inside Kung Fu magazine, fight choreographer and as director of the first martial art instructional videos, Master Lawrence Tan brings his TanDao system online. It is a modernization of Shaolin Five Animals integrated with JKD and Tan’s Dazzling Hands — a contemporary approach with a classical foundation. Are you an Evolving Martial Artist?

  1. BOBBY says:

    hello ,
i was very interested in learning your system of fighting . Where do I begin?

  2. tandao says:

    Hi Bobby,

Depends upon your martial arts background. If you are an experienced practitioner with a solid foundation then you can study my movements and analyze how I execute my techniques and rewatch our videos. There is a lot of valuable information that is considered secret knowledge.

If you are serious about studying TanDao read and watch our vbook, TanDao for Evolving Martial Artists. It provides an overview of the three stages of the system and is a reference for training.

Our Tiger Claw video and Tiger Combat e book complement one another and teach the how animal moves are incorporated with JKD theory.

If you have no experience, or are advanced — please stay tuned for our online teaching.

    Thanks for your interest.

  4. tandao says:

Learn the Universal Form for strength. It is a great exercise that can be performed using dynamic tension and other variations as you evolve. Here is a link to the tiger claw version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yfc9OhiI3A4. Follow along and work up to three to six sets everyday everyday or as much as can. Let us know how you do!

I am planning to buy in these days first the Tiger combat, later the The tiger claw video and finally the Evolving Martial artists and I hope the order I have choose be good for improving my practice of kung fu. Thank you for your videos you are very didactic and your books quite interesting (I have just take a look at the sample) and I share your opinions and conception as far as I have read now. Do you have a structured course on line?
    Thanks again

    Francisco

  6. tandao says:

Francisco, Thank you for your interest in TanDao.
Your sequence of ordering is excellent.
Though we are planning, we do not yet have a structured course on line. However, I suggest you review our TanDao videos and study the movements and ideas.
There is much theory and principles that will be realized if you analyze and consider what is hidden in the videos. Of course, it is best if you already have a martial arts foundation.

How long have you studied martial arts? What style? Knowing this may help me give you tips on practice. Good luck. Lawrence Tan
